# Add if you arriving on Sunday. |
|
If you are arriving on
Sunday (highly recommended - we will be able to pick you up from the airport
at Okiwi on Sunday), or planning to stay longer on Great Barrier, additional
days with all meals provided can be requested from Orama directly. Accommodation
requests should be sent directly to Orama: they will send you a letter
advising the actual cost for the period you want and their bank account
details.
A range of other activities (boating, etc) are available at Orama.
We chose Great Barrier
Island as the location for IVCNZ'2006 because it's a beautiful, but isolated,
place. Its beauty is not spoilt by highways, so you will need to be prepared
for some dirt roads - and longer travelling times. The nearest airport is at
Okiwi: flights directly to Okiwi from Auckland Airport will be available. The
main airport is at Claris: you need to allow 90 minutes to travel by road
from Claris to Orama. It takes a similar time from the ferry terminal at
Tryphena.
The nearest settlement is
at Port Fitzroy. There are several other options for
accommodation there. You will need to hire a car to get to IVCNZ'2006 (allow
30 minutes): cars are easily rented on the island. You can also bring your
own on the ferry to Tryphena, but you'll probably find hiring one on the
island is more economical.
Although there is plenty of accommodation on GBI, the 'rustic' nature of the roads mean that places further afield than Port Fitzroy are not practical options unless you like driving over 'interesting' roads for up to an hour each way to attend the conference.
