On May 21-22, 2001, the Representative Chairman of the Board of Directors of Allied Telesis, Mr. Takayoshi Oshima, and the Representative Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr Atsushi Kotani and his wife, Mrs Kotani, visited The University of Auckland, accompanied by Directors Greg Soper and Geoff Peck from Allied Telesyn, Chistchurch, the New Zealand based company of Allied Telesis. At this occasion a document has been signed on 21 May 2001 (by Mr T. Oshima and Dr. J. Hood, VC of UoA) that Allied Telesis is financing a Chair in Data Communication which will be located at Tamaki campus.
The Mayor of Auckland, Christine Fletcher attended the Allied Telesis visit of Tamaki campus on Tuesday 22 May 2001. After four talks by Profs. Ralph Cooney, Bob Doran, Alan Teixeira, and Reinhard Klette, the honoured guests visited three laboratories at CITR for a display of activities in computer vision, robotics, and internet-centric applications.
